The Ask: Build a resource explaining in-house practices and custom tools
Why It’s Important: A culture of knowledge sharing promotes sustainable teams (source)
The Process: As a new employee at a grant-based research institute, I learned that most of the company’s tools were custom-built and maintained in-house. This meant that many of the training tools I normally used for onboarding (like courses, articles, and books) weren’t available to me.
After receiving some one-on-one training, I decided to start documenting what I’d learned on an in-house wiki.
The end result was a guide outlining the company’s practices for using the custom tools and collaborating across teams.
